I’m a Classic Girl, In a Trendy World

Trendy clothes are so much fun and I love them when I see other people wearing them. Me, not so much. Every time I try something trendy, it ends up in the donation box. I just don’t feel comfortable.
Right now I am loving JCPenney(on my no buy now that I found out they donated to Trump), Old Navy/The Gap for inexpensive classics. All Winter is on clearance so it is the time to buy for next year. I am especially in love with cable knit sweaters. I just can’t get enough!

Are you Trendy, Classic, Romantic, Gothic or something else? Do you stick to one style or do you mix it up? Let me know!

Seasons Change

Now is a good time to buy cold weather staples. Many store have them up on clearance. Anthropologie has many nice tops, sweaters, and layering pieces on sale. Sizes are getting limited so I had to order one top in a large. I will take it in. The style is simple so it will be easy.

Will you be buying any basics on clearance or will you be looking for something more fun? Let me know in the comments.

Transitional Clothes

The weather here is already getting warmer. Spring will be here before you know it. I added a few items to my wardrobe that can be pared down for mild days and added to for cooler evenings. (I may make a small commission off of affiliate links)
Allegra K Blouse

Blouse from Amazon can be worn as is, or have a cardigan or sweater popped on top for warmth.

This skirt from JCPenney is a great weight for transitional seasons. I overdyed it to make it a couple shades darker. For me, the green was a bit too bright. It turned out so well!

Reef Sweater Vest

I ordered this sweater vest from Poshmark. It can be wore over a camisole or tee and for cooler days layered over a long sleeve top.
What are your go-to transitional items? Do you layer?
Let me know what you think.

Vintage Dress Makeover

This was originally an ugly, shapeless formal dress. It was floor length and high-necked. I cut out a v shaped neckline and trimmed it in gold piping. Then I chopped off the length and narrowed the skirt portion. Lastly I took in the waist to make it form fitting over a vintage girdle. Now it is a body hugging wiggle dress.

Brooch- from my collection
Shoes- Irregular Choice from Amazon no longer available
Gloves- Amazon
Belt- from my collection. Possibly from Forever 21 originally.
Girdle- Amazon

In Vested

Winter is already here in some parts of the world. Most of us are having at least cooler days. When it gets chilly I turn to layers to keep warm. I see that this year the knitted/crocheted vest is having its spotlight. I am not sure what I think yet.  I used to wear them when I was much thinner.

Knitted vest from Anthropologie

Wear with a long sleeved shirt? Tucked in? Oversized shirt or regular size? My brain is spinning.

Anthro is calling this a bralette. What?

The oversized shirt is a good look though.

I did order this one from Cider. If I am lucky it will get to me before Winter is over.

What do you think about knitted vests? Do you wear them? Love them, hate them?

Sabrina Has Brought Back 60’s Preppy Style

I binge watched The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina a couple weeks ago. I have been obsessed with her simple, preppy style ever since. Understated and simple, but with class. That and it looks so warm for Winter! Those coats!

Each coat she has is delicious. I may make one like her red coat as I have a vintage pattern.
I also think this coat from LLBean should work

Trying to find cute sweaters has not been easy. Most are tunic shaped or too loose. I did find this really cute sweater on amazon.

I also shopped at Target in the Men’s department. I found this cute sweater that should go will with cropped jeans or a full skirt

The shoes are easy as loafers and Oxford shoes can be found all over amazon.com
Now I am waiting for the second season and more adorable clothes!

Forest Style

Now that I am feeling better I have started dressing a bit more stylishly. I am loving Forest styles like Mori Kei. This is a simple outfit I shopped my closet for. I love the combo of Navy, gold, and rust.

The New Normal

Being diagnosed with a chronic illness is tough. Then coming to terms with the changes in your body is a whole other can of worms. I have been in denial for a year now. A year of weigh gain, swelling, unable to bear wearing regular clothes. I held on to too much.

This me, the me that is now who deserves space. So I am going to choose to let go of the past image in my mind of what "me" I should be. Okay, that means leggings instead of jeans. Elastic waists instead of buttons and zippers. No more stilettos.

Is this permanent? I don't know. Modern medicine is working on new treatments and I am waiting on a pre-auth to start a new drug. Either way I am me, letting go of the past. I just have no room for it.

Feeling Lucky

Sometimes things just work out in your favour. Case in point: I had bought a cute skirt on sale at Forever 21 but the only size they had was large. The darn thing nearly fell off my hips but I gamely wore it with a safety pin. Last night I washed it by mistake in a load on warm and it shrunk. Shrunk to just the right size. Some days the Universe is on my side.
I am feeling very lucky.

Style, Fashion, And What We Really Wear

I have been thinking on on this issue quite a bit lately. If you are like me you often buy clothes on a whim, or because they are in style, look comfy etc. We don't usually look at our clothes as a whole entity. Ones that fit like pieces of a puzzle into our wardrobes. Not only to match what we have, but to match "us": To go with what your lifestyle is, your colour preferences. This piecemeal shopping approach has led most of us to a closet full of haphazard clothes choices that we don't wear.
After spending this year with most of my clothes in storage, just pulling out a few for capsule wardrobes, I have made important insights about my own habits and I have realized that;
1. I have clothes that do not flatter me
2. I have clothes that do not fit me
3. I have clothes I like the look of but hate wearing.
I really think if I had not started rotating my wardrobe in small capsules I would not have completely understood this. I guess I knew it but I didn't really KNOW it until I had a limited amount of choices and I still bypassed those items.
So now that I have come to terms with this, letting go of those items will be much easier. I have decided to pare down even more the amount of clothes that I have. This journey had been a long one but the road is getting smoother.

Contouring

I have attempted contouring once before but I thought I would give it another shot. I am not really good at this but I am willing to experiment!

Here is my plain face. I washed with barefaced oil used my regular moisturizer then primed with smashbox primer.

Here I used contouring according to what I read online. I look like a clown now but it was fun to apply.

These are all the products I used on my face.

I am not sure if the finished look is much of an improvement. I still look tired. I guess nothing fixes late nights other than sleep ;)

Are you experimenting with contouring? Let me know what you think about it.

Getting Frosted

The Fashion Forecast is calling for a return of frosted lipstick for Fall.

I used Julep's Skip The Brush in Golden Guava with Desert Rose layered over. I lined with Avon's lip liner in Chocolate. I think if you don't go over the top frosted it is very wearable. Key is to keep the eyes neutral. What trend will you be trying this Fall?

Layers Take the Cake

One awesome thing about the colder weather is being able to wear layers. On a recent trip to Goodwill I found this stripey dress and soft grey long sleeve top. A lace cami, knit tights and retro styled shoes were icing on the cake. This was a fun outfit to wear and kept me toasty warm for a day out and about town :)

Wardrobe Clean Up

Winter is a great time to either start a wardrobe clean up or continue one started earlier in the year. I had previously gone through my summer clothes and let go of a huge bag worth of them. I am now ready to go through my fall and winter clothes and pare them down as well.
My closet as of now is still a jumbled mess. I have banned myself from any further clothing or shoe purchases until I have reduced it all by at least a third. I also have purchased a closet organization system that will be going in this week. ALL the clothes will be coming out of my closet at that time and only what fits my style, as in colours that compliment me, and what can make up more than two outfits can stay. All worn items and what do not fit/belong stylistically will be donated or sold. I am determined to get a handle on this overflowing closet situation and to wear more of what I have. I will keep you updated on the progress. Wish me luck!

Oh My Granny!

I don't know if it is just the colder weather or if I am turning into my grandmother, but I am terribly excited by this awesome find from Goodwill. I mean, who doesn't love a granny square bedecked ruana? I know I will be spending many hours cuddled up in it. Keep warm my friends!

Chloe's Saturday Pick 8/9/14

Here are my granddaughter Chloe's fav's for a weekend of fun. I have to agree that she has excellent taste. I would wear all of this and the bike is fabulous! And who says the young have no sense of style?
